Last weekend 6 members of 101st Beavers and their families took part in their first Colony hike around Finchampstead Ridges and Horseshoe Lake.

The Beavers brought their waterproofs, drinks and snacks for our half way stop at Horseshoe lake cafe, but some members started asking about “treats” much earlier.

The Beavers had a go at using maps, and sharing what was needed to go on a hike and stay safe.

As part of the hike Beavers were looking for items to add to their “journey stick”. Aboriginal people in Australia used journey sticks to more easily recount their journeys to other people upon their return.

The Beavers were looking for a feather, an acorn, a water chestnut, a smooth stone, a yellow leaf, a green leaf and a pine cone.

Some Beavers were going to see Grandparents after the walk and planned to use their journey sticks to recall their walk and share their adventure.
